President of SPPI Invited as Speaker to 2023 Independents Conference & Expo

Patrick Brenner has been invited as a speaker and panelist to discuss SPPI’s report “No Loan for You!” and how the war on specialized emergency lending is hurting the American Southwest.

We are excited to announce that Patrick Brenner, president of the Southwest Public Policy Institute (SPPI), has been invited to speak at the American Financial Services Association‘s (AFSA) 2023 Independents Conference & Expo. Patrick was specifically invited as a speaker and panelist based on SPPI’s report “No Loan for You!”, which documents how and why the war on specialized emergency lending hurts the American Southwest.

The AFSA conference will be held from April 17-20 at the beautiful Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The event will feature fast-paced and informative keynote sessions, thoughtful committee meetings, and engaging networking opportunities. Attendees will have the chance to explore business strategies and insights from industry leaders and colleagues, participate in thought-provoking keynotes, panels, and committee meetings, and network with other professionals.

Patrick’s presentation at the conference will be a must-see for anyone interested in the future of emergency lending in the Southwest. In the report, Patrick and Dowd Muska, vice president of research, reveal how restrictions on short-term, small-dollar loans hurt the unbanked and underbanked in New Mexico. The report also exposes the dishonesty of using annual percentage rates (APRs) to scrutinize loans that last, on average, 111 days. Patrick will offer a unique perspective on how policymakers can promote greater competition in financial services and expand options for middle- and low-income households.

We are proud to have Patrick Brenner represent SPPI at the AFSA conference and look forward to the valuable insights he will share with attendees.
