PHOENIX, AZ—The Southwest Public Policy Institute (SPPI) is celebrating a resounding victory in the fight against government overreach following Elon Musk’s viral tweet proclaiming “CFPB RIP 🪦.”
For years, and as recently as two days ago, SPPI has led the charge in exposing the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) as an unaccountable, anti-consumer bureaucratic behemoth. Our research, advocacy, and relentless pressure have now culminated in the highest-profile acknowledgment that the CFPB’s days are numbered.
“Elon Musk’s recognition of the CFPB’s impending demise is a victory not just for SPPI, but for every American consumer who has suffered under this agency’s regulatory abuse,” said Patrick M. Brenner, President of the Southwest Public Policy Institute. “The CFPB has spent years punishing innovation, crushing small businesses, and driving up consumer costs. Now, the writing is on the wall.”
This announcement follows SPPI’s extensive work in exposing the CFPB’s reckless data breach affecting over 250,000 consumers, its anti-competitive crusade against financial technology, and its aggressive overreach beyond its original mandate. With Musk’s endorsement, the momentum for dismantling the CFPB has never been stronger.
With President Donald Trump poised to take decisive action, the elimination of the CFPB could be imminent. However, bureaucratic inertia won’t go down without a fight. SPPI remains committed to ensuring policymakers follow through with fundamental reforms that protect consumers by promoting free markets, competition, and financial innovation—not government interference.
SPPI will continue to champion accountability and transparency in financial regulation and remains vigilant against any attempt to resurrect the CFPB under a different name or structure.
“The CFPB was born out of the overregulation hysteria of the Obama era,” said Brenner. “Its demise will be a defining moment for financial freedom in America. We are proud to have played a role in this battle and will ensure this victory is cemented in policy.”
The Southwest Public Policy Institute invites all affected by CFPB’s overreach to share their stories and join us in celebrating this monumental step toward economic liberty.
