The Southwest Public Policy Institute (SPPI) is pleased to announce that it has officially submitted a 14-day notice of intent to sue the Colorado Attorney General’s office under the Colorado Open Records Act (CORA). This legal action is in response to the denial of SPPI’s requests to inspect public records made on March 18 and March 22, 2024. SPPI believes that the Attorney General’s office has improperly withheld these records, which are critical for ensuring government transparency and accountability.
The increased “consumer advocacy” activities by the Colorado Attorney General’s office have raised significant concerns about potential overreach and lack of transparency. SPPI’s requests aimed to obtain detailed information regarding the AG’s enforcement actions and communications related to consumer complaints and settlements announced in a March 2024 press release. By denying access to these records, the AG’s office has obstructed efforts to assess the fairness and transparency of its consumer protection initiatives.
